Jackie French - Book Review

One of my favourite Jackie French books is called ‘Flood’.

Flood may look like a little children’s picture book from the cover, but when you start reading this fantastic book you start to realise how devastating the rain can be, how sad that so many families lost their homes, businesses and family members and how hard the people of Queensland worked to save their community.

‘Flood’ is about one of many devastating floods that Queensland endured and how the strength of humankind and the community pulled together to help one another even if they had lost everything.

The story begins with the much needed ‘gentle rain’ falling onto the dry land. The rain suddenly turns savage and is so heavy for such a long period of time that the ground and the rivers can’t hold it all.

Finally the rivers break their banks and the town is flooded with torrents of water. Trees are sucked into the torrents and boats are torn from their jetties. Cables of a boardwalk snapped and a kilometre of wood and metal became a weapon of the flood but a little tugboat saved it from harming the town.

The book explains how the human spirit of the community help each other risking their own lives to save other people and homes.

A wonderful story from devastation to greatness and lots of sadness in between.

What makes this book even more special is that 'all profits raised from the sale of each book went to the Flood Disaster Relief Appeal.

3.Black Beauty Which is about the adventures of a beautiful black horse which is written by Anna Sewell, i think Jackie would like this book because of the adventures it has.

4.Animal Farm is by George Orwell.I think she would like this book because it is about animals being tired of working for men and start the own society.

5.The Tale Of Peter rabbit is about a rabbit who is always getting into trouble by doing mischief. The book is written by Beatrix Potter. She would like because of all the funny mischief he gets into.

6.Marley And Me is about a Dog called Marley and the adventures he has with his family. It is written by John Grogan.She would like it because its based on Actual events.

7.The wind in the willows is written by Kenneth Grahame. This book is about these animals called Mole, willful Ratty, Badger the perennial bachelor, and petulant Toad and there amazing adventures, that is why i think she would like this book.

A Waltz For Matilda is about a girl that is 12 years old and her name is Matilda.

Matilda is living with her mother and wants to find her unknown father which she dreamed would be a golden man so she goes out and goes to find her and encountering a few people on the way like curry and rice.

There are also people trying to get in her way and Aboriginal people who she helps.


This is a great book and would rate it 9/10 because of all the surprises and the outbush which sometimes makes me wonder.If there is another like this i would read it because it is a great book.

One day when Jake was walking along the beach he found a sewer pipe with light at the end of it. Jake carefully swam through the Green slimy water to the other side. Once he was on the other side, it was a land full of lollipops and rainbows everywhere. Just then Jake found a horse galloping by itself eating lollipops. So Jake jumped on the horses back and flew off into the distance. Once he was back home he told his parents the whole story and what he did for so long. But his parents did not believe him.

One night, a group of friends were abandoned from their parents. They started walking through the deep and dark forest, but then, as they turned the corner, they saw a pack of Wolves peckish for food. They were scared and started to run as the Wolves chased them. They ran all the way to Freddy's Haunted House with cobwebs everywhere. They entered a small cave with dead bats and skeletons on the wall. As soon as Lisa blinked, a man with a chainsaw chased them around the cave and into the Room of Skulls. BOOM!!! They were never seen again.

In a unknown Island a young group of friends discovered a extremely precious artefact.It all started when they somehow all got stuck in a hole they searched and searched until they found a hidden door. Immediately they opened it. As they turned the corner the door shut and they realised that they were stuck in there until they could find a way out and just when they lost faith they found a genie saying 1 wish. Immediately he screamed treasure and the genie disappeared and the gates of freedom closed and thats how the new name came Treasure Island.

Once upon a time, there lived two young children. These two children had an obsession with candy. They had a candy shop down the road from where they lived. One morning, the children asked their mother "Mother, may we go to the candy shop?". She replied "No, not ever again! You're going to make us broke! Why don't you just steal some instead?" I began to prepare for a morning ride when a harsh shout rang out, shattering the serene stillness. My body tensed and moments later, a man began to chase me!

I had never run faster and I soon came to the river. I dove in and swam across, dodging broken pipes below the water. When I reached the shore, Sylvia greeted me and I carefully climbed onto her silky back and we galloped away towards the house.

The Mysterious Mystery

Everything was fine but then suddenly the horse went missing! The farmer searched carefully through the farm as his horse was his prize possession. His horse's name was Prince. Whilst searching, the farmer found a very shiny, green patch of grass, so without thinking the farmer stepped on it and suddenly dropped deep down into something like the size of a human pipe. By the time he reached the bottom, he found himself and he had swam in the sewers and had turned tiny! As the farmer was swimming in the disgusting, stinky sewers, he called out to Prince. After calling many times, his horse finally answered but then suddenly...

The Day everything Changed

Life was ordinary until the day everything changed. To start of with, everything changed size, the giraffes, horses and elephants all shrunk to the size of a mice whereas the cats, rabbits and guinea pigs turned out like giants. In one fine farm an extraordinary thing happened. All the horses were so small that they ran through the gates and tried to escape. One extremely nosey horse named Harriot galloped around the entire farm sliding through the slightest of gaps. All of a sudden, Harriot came to a holt inside a sink. He slid down a long green pipe. Water gushed down the pipe at high speed and the horse swam carefully to one of the dangling poles and held on for dear life...

Greenwitch town

Ones, a young couple lived in a quiet and lovely neighbourhood .But one day they had to move because the couple got a new job they moved to a town called Greenwitch. It was quieter than there old town but it was certainly not lovelier it was rather spooky and swampy with clouds all around and nobody was to be seen.At the end of the town there was a very gigantique castle with bats all around it soon after, there car got stuck in a swamp so they swam carefully across.When the got across a horse was standing there ,so they went on it they arrived at the castle where they were suppose to meet .they rang the bell and suddenly a pipe sucked them up to an evil green witch who eat them alive.

Once there was a boy named Greg he lived near a lake.

One day Greg was running from some mean bullies and their dogs. He was running to his house but the door was locked. He quickly went to the green lake and swam carefully so he didn't drown. 

Following this he found pipe, so he swam in and to his surprise he found a horse, but it didn't have an owner. 

So he found a way out and went back to his house, then he was thinking what to call it, so he called it pipe because that is where he found the horse.

SCIENCE RUNNY RACES

Year 6 Science Lesson: Runny Races

Today Year 6 had their science lesson and we were learning about viscous products and testing and racing them to see the most viscous and the least viscous.

To begin with we gathered materials which were:

• Honey
• Lemonade
• Dishwashing liquid
• Milk
• Vegetable Oil
• Plastic cups/measuring jugs

Once we gathered the materials we started testing the liquids.


OUR RESULTS MOST VISCOUS TO LEAST VISCOUS:

1. Honey
2. Dishwashing liquid
3. Vegetable oil
4. Milk
5. Lemonade

Year 6 really enjoyed this experiment and found out that honey was the most viscous product and the least viscous product was lemonade.

‘Come on hurry up’ said Lily harshly. She said to her pet HORSE who was very disobedient. Lily quickly tied him to a tree and went off busily and CAREFULLY apples.

Then while she was busy picking the horse bit off the GREEN rope and ran away.

After Lily finished she got a shock and saw that the horse was gone, she quickly ran into the forest looking for the horse.

Whilst Lily was searching the horse was swimming in a lake, until he bumped into a PIPE and became very unconscious.

Lily found him and quickly SWAM to him and took him to safety.

Then pop out of the water came a large bright green frog. G'day i'm Fred the Frog. Peter's mouth shot wide open and his eyeballs nearly popped out of his head. You You can talk oh yes i do, sorry if i gave you a fright. Welcome to my water park. Whooaaaa Peter said. As fred carefully climbed up his sturdy ladder he jumped of his big diving board and swam to the lilly-pad.

Mario was a baker who lived alone with his horse called Pipe.One day when he was carefully frosting a cake a man came into the bakery his name was Luigi.The man ordered a custard tart and gave him an odd tip it was an odd coin it immediately shone than Mario appeared in a green pipe and slide down into the water and swam onto the surface of the water realising the land was animated and received a letter telling him to complete all the levels and be reunited with Pipe.

He sprinted back home and screamed as loud as a Lion. He ran to the supermarket with $100 and bought 100 raffle tickets and won the new Mario game. He had the best night ever.

There once lived a little, old lady under a GREEN mountain. She had a rather small, old cottage. It's a cottage without reception, wi-fi or a television. Once, her shelf broke, her books went missing but worst of all she had to call a plumber. In 98 years of her life, that was the first time, she had even call. Several days later, she stepped outside her front door and saw delightfully a plumber on a HORSE. The plumber then CAREFULLY hopped off. He was on his way inside to fix a PIPE but he then fell, and SWAM to safety. 'Bye!' she yelled.

The holiday... my favourite time of year! This year I'm going to Fiji and I know it's going to be great. Ok, It's not like going to France or England but it's my first time overseas and mum said "It's a great place to go overseas for the first time and it's not too far from Melbourne." Plane trips are sooo boring. My TV wasn't working so I decided to look out the window. Then when I looked outside of the plane window I saw a note with my spy code on it. Noooo! "Boom," I knew this flight would be a dangerous one. Only days ago did I leave home in search of a mission. and to put a stop to worldwide wars. The sleek plane held hundreds of grenades and bombs ready to fight Iraq. My fellow soldiers and I were sitting still, waiting anxiously. Little did I know that our enemy was waiting to attack. Then, when I looked out of the plane window, I saw it, a fuelled air bomb heading straight towards us.

"Crash!"

The bomb collided with our plane.

So far it had been quite a smooth flight with little turbulence but then when I looked out of the plane window, my brow immediately furrowed with worry. It was an average morning on Neptune.My family consists of four kids and that's not including our magic cat sparkles whatever he touches turns into stone,and that morning she sat on the couch,almost everything we own has turned to stone but this time was different the whole couch including Sparkles had disappeared we hoped it had transported to a wonderful place called earth we checked there and found and old looking settee placed in a gloomy forest.My sister Ariana and I sat on the settee suprisingly it was quite comfortable, Ariana felt something crawling on her shoulder, she gasped! realising  it was only sparkles, we're so glad she's back.

Once they were on their flying ships they found a big stone settee
 just floating in the clouds. Just then one of the German ships smashed into the settee, and disappeared.

Just then they found out it was a teleporter to the future. The Germans and the Americans flew their ships into the settee. They all found out that the teleporter sent them onto the moon which was made of cheese

After 2 hours of searching she was not to be seen and he came across a stone couch and to his surprise it was his sister on it. He tried to wake her, but she vanished into thin air and was never seen again.

The comfortable but old settee was always left outside in the garden to deter robbers and other unwanted visitors. In fact a stray dog happened to sit on it one day and turned to stone.  One day, when the family went on a holiday an evil witch appeared and planned steal the settee with her powers of telekinesis.However, the couch wouldn’t budge.Suddenly,she was compelled to the couch, as if by magic, and turned into stone forever.

It was 1939, and the U.S were attacking in the English war. The English were fighting really well until the U.S unleashed their secret weapon that could teleport anyone or anything to anywhere. The U.S teleported a bomb that when it reached the English camp, it would explode frozen, toxic gas. The gas froze 11 people and an innocent cat. At that time, the cat was sitting on the disguisable emergency centre that when people were injured, they would take the injured to the emergency centre which is a Couch. The emergence centre was also devastatingly frozen.

Long ago In the mysterious woods, There was a mysterious couch. One night in the light of a full blue moon, There was a black cat with bright green eyes. It was a windy night,The cat crept up quietly. Then suddenly, the cat jumps on the top of the couch. Soon later there was a humongous strike of lightening and KAPOW!!!! The couch started burning and it turned to stone. The same thing happened to the cat. And to this day the cat lays upon the couch in stone. Since then the cat on the couch were never seen again.

It was Friday the 13th When Alex and Jenna went out in the Full Blue Moon and they saw a mysterious, old couch that look like it was made of stone. When Alex walked closer, there was cat walking on the couch and then turned to stone. Alex and Jenna walked and sat on the couch and BOOM!!! They were teleported away together. Until this day, they were never seen again.

Once upon a time, in a haunted quiet village, there lived a young adventurous girl. She decided to go for a walk on a cold, windy night. While she was walking through the howling sound of wolves in the mysterious shadows forest, she bumped into something rather large. It was a couch but not an ordinary couch. It looked very old-fashioned and it seemed to look like it was made out of stones. She also faintly realised a grey cat sitting there. She decided to sit down and have a rest. From that night on noone saw her ever again.

He was curious so he decided to sit on it and wait out the rain. So he sat down but when he sat down he was warped to a Sci-Fi Battle. Jeff was very confused he was asked what his name was Jeff replied my name is Jeff he was taken to an X-Wing he climbed into the Cockpit and he figured out how to start it.
